Damodar City Labasa will bring not only the expected cinemas, eateries, and retailers to the North but also a 40-room hotel with conference facilities.

Construction for phase 1 of the project is at completion, the retail centre and cinema wing are expected to be launched within the year.

Div Damodar of the Damodar Group said, “As far as the second phase; the cinemas goes, we’re looking at the second half of 2023. The building is going to be completed very shortly. And I can formally announce that we are doing a hotel development which is the third phase, so we’re looking to go into construction in about two weeks’ time.”

“That’s a business and semi-tourism project,” Mr Damodar said of the hotel plans.

“We’ll have an 80-seater conference space there to tap into the MICE market since that’s in heavy demand. So the value of the total development after the hotel is complete is about $60 million.”

Phase 1 has been completed and hosts tenancies such as The Hot Bread Kitchen, Dollar Things, Zens Medical Centre, Vinod Patel Home & Living, and a recent sign-on Extra Supermarket.

According to Mr Damodar, there will be 19 retail shops and three fine dining restaurants, some of which are expected to open soon.

Phase 1 is expected to open fully in September this year.

Phase 2, which is the cinema wing and food court is scheduled to be completed by the second half of the year.

Phase 3, which will comprise of the 40-room hotel plus conference facility, will commence its construction by the end of March 2023.
