The Shop N Save Supermarket-sponsored 18 holes stroke Pro-Am Championship saw new winners crowned in the men’s, ladies and professional categories at the golf links on Sunday.
Veteran and former Lautoka and national football rep, Vinod Chand outplayed national rep and defending champion Abid Hussein and Fiji Golf Club’s Mohammed Rizwan to take out the overall gross title.
Chand grossed 70 for a one stroke victory.
Likewise, Amy Subam of Nadi was declared the overall ladies division champion on a fine gross score of 81.
Sam Lee, on the other hand, dethroned defending champion Roneel Prakash with a nine under par 60 to take out the professional category.
Lautoka businessman Paras Ram took out the overall nett title on a nett 60, former Lautoka football coach and player, Dennis Singh was declared the A-grade champion on 65, followed by inform Rohit Chandra of Ba on 66 and Manwal Kumar third on 67 on a countback from Lawrence Naidu.
Denarau, Nadi-based Joe Drauna walked away with the B-grade title on 67 after a countback from fast finishing Azahar khan.
Chief guest and consistent Anil Prasad came in third on 69 on a countback from Jeffery John.
Ansarul Khan was the toast of the C-grade division with a score of 66 with Sajid Khan on 67 and Alex Qiokata on 68.
Steven Leger nailed the juniors title on 75 with Noor Ali of the United States grabbing the newcomers category.
Lautoka Golf Club president Chong Lee thanked sponsors Babu Rattan Deo and Neeshil Deo of Shop N Save Supermarket for the fantastic prizes for the amateurs as well as $2000 cash for the professionals.
The tournament attracted the cream of top golfers from around the country.
Chief guest Anil Prasad presented the prize to the winners and the successful Pro-Am Championship was rounded off with a grand cocktail for the 68 golfers as well as the sponsor’s guests.
The golf course was well received by all the participants as reflective of the top scores.
