Suspended Naitasiri under-19 player Keresi Maya’s lawyer has filed an application for three additional documents to be included in the case.
Maya allegedly punched a referee during a rugby match in August this year.
The matter was called in the High Court in Suva on Friday before judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe, however, Mr Maya was not present in court.
The application was filed by Mr Maya’s lawyer Simione Valenitabua and included documents related to the Certificate of Incorporation of the Fiji Rugby Football Union, the Constitution of the Fiji Rugby Football Union and the Fiji Rugby 2020 Skipper Cup terms of participation.
Mr Valenitabua told the court that the application was something new which came about after the last mention date where the court had fixed the hearing date for the stay application.
State lawyer Setefano Komaibaba did not object to the application.
Justice Rajasinghe told Mr Valenitabua that Mr Maya had to be present at the next court date and allowed the application .
Earlier this month, the defence had filed a stay proceeding application on the matter before the magistrates court on the grounds of double jeopardy.
Maya was charged with one count of assault causing actual bodily harm and appeared at the Nausori Magistrates Court in September.
It was alleged that Maya on August 29 allegedly punched referee Peni Talemaivavalagi during the match between Naitasiri and Tailevu at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori.
FRU had banned Maya from all levels of rugby in Fiji and overseas for six years following a disciplinary hearing which had been conducted by an independent judicial officer.
The matter has been adjourned to January 20 2021 for stay application hearing.
