The Fiji Volleyball Federation (FVF) launched its divisional championship for the West, North and Central divisions last Friday in Lautoka.

The championship includes the top four men’s and women’s teams from each of the 20 FVF associations across the country to battle for the top spots in each of the three divisions.

The top teams have qualified from the club knock-out competitions conducted over the past few months.

The championship, sponsored by Fiji Meats Pte Ltd, will be staggered over the next three weekends.

In announcing the partnership, Shirina Feroz, the managing director of Fiji Meats, said they were committed to promoting the sport.

“This is our first partnership with FVF,” she said.

“Our company is a firm believer in youth empowerment and FVF is at the forefront of giving our young Fijians a positive platform to channel their talents and engage in positive behaviour.

“This partnership marks a milestone for our company as we are launching our new 100 per cent halal range of hot and spicy lamb sausages on the margins of the championship. We encourage all Fijians to support this tournament.”

FVF president and former rep Liga Gukisuva believes that staggering the tournaments will allow federation and its affilliates sufficient time to put in place the necessary support mechanisms for the players and officials, ensuring quality and development of the sport.

“We do not want to only host a tournamentm, we want to ensure that we are progressively working to improve the quality and standards of the sport,” Gukisuva said.

“We can only do that if we collectively commit to its administration and management as well.”

Meanwhile, the FVF Central Championship will be at the Fiji Sports Council premises at Laucala Bay in Suva from October 30-31, the Western Championship either in Nadi or Lautoka from November 6-7 and Northern Championship at the Nawadamu Court in Labasa Town from November 13-14.

FVF has also appointed two vice-presidents in Joe Gray for the West and in the North, Umesh Chand.
