A new Vuniyasi/Navo bridge with a 100-year design life was opened in Nadi on Friday.

It was opened by the Australian High Commissioner Ewen McDonald, and Minister for Public Works, Transport and Meteorological Services, Ro Filipe Tuisawau.

The new bridge is elevated two metres above the old bridge and spans 69 metres in length.

“This is a significant milestone in the shared vision through the Vuvale Partnership between Fiji and Australia and we are proud to support quality transport infrastructure priorities that are climate resilient supporting the local community”, said Mr McDonald.

“This new bridge forms part of the FJD $117 million Fiji Transport Infrastructure Restoration Project, funded by the Australian Infrastructure Financing Facility for the Pacific which makes it the eighth bridge to be completed under this program.

“The program also supported the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) in the renewal or resealing of more than 1.5 million square metres of road surface and the replacement of nine critical bridges across Viti Levu.”

Ro Filipe said Government was working collaboratively with development partners such as Australia in the improvement and modernising of Fiji road infrastructure to be climate resilient.
