The Fiji men’s netball side is leaving no stone unturned ahead of the Netball Fiji Men’s Invitational tournament against Tonga Men’s, which starts today and finishes on Wednesday at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.
Team captain Kitione Waqavonovono said the squad has been focused on following its training program and fine-tuning combinations during its final preparations this week.
“We’ve been just following our training program that the management team and our agency have given us,” Waqavonovono said.
“Everyone has pulled up fine and there haven’t been any issues with injuries.”
He expects a tough challenge from Tonga, who visited Fiji last year and continue to strengthen their men’s program.
“They’re a good team and they’ll come to challenge us,” he said.
Waqavonovono stressed the importance of teamwork, saying every player has a role to play as Fiji builds toward the 2028 Men’s Netball World Cup in Wellington, New Zealand.
Rather than relying on individuals, Waqavonovono stressed the importance of teamwork and every player fulfilling their role on court.
“Everyone has a role to play. Netball is a team sport rather than just an individual sport,” he said.
He has also called on fans to turn up in numbers and support the national side throughout the three-day tournament.
“Please come and support your Fiji men’s team that will play against Tonga next week (this week). We look forward to everyone’s support, and we hope to see you all there.”
