THE Navosa Rugby Union has lifted its preparations ahead of tomorrow’s crucial Skipper Cup Round 10 clash against Khelvin Civil Engineering Lautoka at Churchill Park.

Navosa director of rugby Selo Sanawa said the side has maintained its usual preparation routine but increased its intensity as it prepares to face a strong Lautoka outfit.

Sanawa said the team has focused on correcting areas that cost them opportunities in their previous match against Kadavu, particularly defence, patience in attack, discipline and decision-making.

“The preparation is normal like every week, but we have lifted our preparation level to another standard knowing Lautoka is a good side too and we respect them,” Sanawa said.

He expects a tough battle against the Maroons, with both teams fighting for important points as the competition enters the crucial end of the season.

Sanawa identified Lautoka’s forwards and fast-paced backline as major threats, but said his players are aware of what to expect.

“The first 20 minutes is going to be crucial for us because it will be the baseline for the full 80 minutes of rugby,” he said.

Navosa will also look to use its kicking game and forward pack to put pressure on Lautoka throughout the match.

Sanawa said the team has shown significant improvement in its first season in the Skipper Cup after competing in the Vanua competition last year.

He believes the upcoming Round 10 and 11 matches will be crucial as Navosa targets a top eight finish and a place in the quarter-finals.
