THE Nasinu netball team has intensified its preparation for the Fiji Netball Association-sanctioned Inter-District Championship (IDC) later this month.
Despite the bad weather a huge turnout of players has been attending the Fiji Gold-sponsored association’s training sessions.Its president Mereseini Delai said the bad weather bouts had failed to stop their players from attending training sessions.
“Preparations are going pretty well considering the weather,” Delai said.
“It is unfortunate that we can’t go out on to the courts and can’t access the gym, however the turnout had been great.
We have a lot of 19-year-old players which is really good.”
The association’s new structure has helped in getting more players.
“It’s how we have being having proper structured training sessions. The girls are coming out in numbers and are looking forward to what we are going to do next.”
Availability of training venues is one of the challenges facing the association.
“Primary and secondary schools are all training at the same time.
Trying to slot in the training time is one of our challenges such as training from 4pm to 5pm.
It’s just one hour. It’s not enough but that’s the only time the gym is available.
“Players’ development is another major area which needs to be developed and clubs need to be strict in following their training programs, she said.
“Breaching the gap in the case of clubs, for example elite players in our national team. The training schedule and sessions they have are high so one drawback we have is these girls finish and they return to the club, but we don’t have the same intensity in the clubs,” Delai said.
