SOROKOBA native Savenaca Naliva is eyeing progress after his victory against Joseph Kwadjo last month.

Naliva and Kwadjo met twice this year with the first bout in February being declared a no contest.

Naliva’s trainer Farmaan Ali said the aim now was to get a world championship fight to Fiji.

He said Naliva had the potential to become a world champion.

“To be the best we had to beat the best,” Ali said.

“We beat Kwadjo, who is regarded as the best boxer in the country and who was trained by the best boxing trainer around.

“In the last fight Naliva was leading Kwadjo on points and because of a slippery canvas, there was no room for error.

“So we had to bring him down without the canvas being blamed for. In the first round Kwadjo flew out of the ring after he was connected with a good shot.

“I believe Naliva beat him in nearly every round and then floored him in the last round. We have beaten Kwadjo twice now and we are not looking back and wasting our time on a trilogy.

“We hope to get an International Boxing Organisation title fight in one of the divisional titles and we are going for it.

“After that we hope to fight few more good fights and then try and bring a world title fight in Fiji.”

Naliva’s camp is targeting a clash against current IBO light heavyweight champion Sven Fornling of Sweden. ”

In fact the fight between Kwadjo and Naliva was far better than the last defence fight by Sven against Karo Murat,” he said.
