The 12 men who were charged with various offenses in relation to the violent attack on a home at Nakelo, Tailevu have been remanded in custody until November 3.

The 12 accused persons appeared before Resident Magistrate Supreena Naidu at the Nausori Magistrates Court this morning.

The suspects have been charged with four counts of assault causing bodily harm, two counts of criminal trespass, one count of malicious act and one count of damaging property.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Ali objected to bail on the ground of the case being of public interest, the incident has caused tension within the community and that the security of the residents would be under threat.

Defense counsel, John Rabuku said strict bail conditions should be given as the accused had given their assurances that no further conflict would occur.

Magistrate Naidu ordered Mr Rabuku to file formal bail applications for each of the 12 accused.

The 12 accused will be remanded at the remand centre in Korovou until their bail hearing on November 3.
