THE Nadi International Aviation Volleyball Tournament has reached another milestone, with organisers expecting 94 teams from 37 organisations to converge in Nadi tomorrow for the 22nd edition of the Business House competition.

Tournament director and executive committee secretary Bulou Lele Wilson said the continued support from organisations, particularly those from Suva, had given organisers confidence to stage the tournament despite concerns over rising fuel prices.

“We were a bit hesitant for holding the tournament because of the fuel price hike. We thought that it was going to affect the people,” Wilson said.

However, the response from participating teams exceeded expectations, with several Suva-based organisations expressing their interest after organisers called for registrations.

Team Construct is the only new organisation joining the tournament this year.

Wilson said the tournament had remained an important platform for workers to build relationships beyond their workplaces.

The event began in 2004 as a way of bringing workers within the airport community together before expanding to organisations around Nadi and later across Fiji.

Over the years, the tournament has also attracted overseas teams and, at its peak in 2015, had about 199 teams participating.

This year’s competition will feature men’s, women’s, mixed, masters’ men’s, masters mixed and invitational categories, with nine teams registered across the invitational men’s and mixed divisions.

The tournament will take place at Mount Saint Mary’s School ground, and the games will kick start at 8.30am.
