A 34-YEAR-old man charged with the murder of a Ba taxidriver appeared in the High Court in Lautoka yesterday.

It is alleged that on December 3 last year, Revoni Yalayala killed Donal Prasad and dumped his body at Qalitu in Lautoka.

Prasad’s body was found at Qalitu a day after he left home on December 2 while on a trip to Lautoka. His taxi was found abandoned at an industrial area in the city.

Mr Yalayala appeared before Justice Aruna Aluthge and had been remanded in custody.

Mr Yalayala told the court he was made a scapegoat during the caution interview and did not sign the caution interview statement. He also claimed that he was verbally assaulted while in remand.

Justice Aluthge told Mr Yalayala he needed to display good conduct while in prison because he had previous charges against him.

State lawyer Simione Seruvatu told the court a post-mortem examination report and a crime scene investigation (CSI) photography book were yet to be received from the police.

The matter has been adjourned to 9.30am on May 1 for bail hearing while the substantive matter will be called on May 15 for mention.
