PARENTS should be more vigilant in looking after their children during this festive season.
Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Ministry assistant director for Child Services Ema Tukutukuevu said parents could be held accountable if something happened to their children.
“We should know where our children are, what they are doing or engaging themselves in and we need to make sure they do not go to some red zone areas,” she said.
“Sometimes they are involved in accidents and other unfortunate incidence because we lack the supervision.”
Speaking at the 2019 Human Rights Day community awareness session in Vunidawa, Naitasiri, yesterday, Ms Tuktukulevu said parents should ensure they take their children everywhere they go so they could be under their watch at all times.
She also highlighted that disciplining a child to the extent of hurting them was against the rights of children.
Meanwhile, the purpose of having the awareness program in villages such as Vunidawa is to provide a platform to young people and elders in the community to be heard and as well educate them on human rights.
