Military officer fronts court for attempted murder charge

A 28-YEAR-OLD military officer appeared at the Nasinu Magistrates Court earlier today charged with attempted murder.

It is alleged that Rajiv Krishan Padyachi attempted to murder his 35-year-old partner on September 15, in Colo-i-Suva.

According to Police, the accused is alleged to have attempted to drown his partner while swimming in Colo-i-Suva on Saturday.

A team of police officers reportedly heard the woman’s cry for help and managed to save her and arrested the accused.

Magistrate Sufia Hamza has ordered a domestic violence restraining order against Mr Padyachi.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Apenisa Keresoni objected to bail and made an application to have the case transferred to the High Court in Suva.

Magistrate Hamza has transferred the matter to the High Court in Suva and has remanded Mr Padyachi in custody.

The case has been adjourned to September 21.
