The Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Force (RFMF), Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto, has thanked officers of the military in a video message released on the RFMF social media site.
“For the past 50 years, the Republic of Fiji Military Forces has developed in size and capability,” Mr Naupoto said.
“And we have been actively contributing to nation-building and for 42 out of those 50 years, we have been engaged in peacekeeping around the world.”
The Commander wished all his officers a happy 50th anniversary.
“As we celebrate our 50th year of Independence, may I express my sincere gratitude to the men and women of the force, past and present, who have proudly served our nation with honour locally and abroad.”
