FIJI College of General Practitioners president Dr John Fatiaki says the initiative by the Government to vaccinate 300,000 youths is well-intentioned.
He has also reassured members of the public that the Men C vaccines were safe and had only minor side effects.
“We appreciate the Government’s declaration of this outbreak and the widespread public education program put into place throughout the country and other public health measures undertaken so far,” Dr Fatiaki said.
Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum had earlier said in Parliament that more than 300,000 Fijians aged 19 years and below would soon be vaccinated for prevention against the meningococcal disease.
