THE Sigatoka Magistrate’s Court has acquitted three men on charges relating to possession and cultivation of illicit drugs.

Moape Ratu, Are Etania Nalagi and Aporosa Yada were each charged with one count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs after 26.6 kilograms of cannabis sativa or Indian hemp were allegedly found on them on April 20, 2015.

The men were also charged for allegedly cultivating 796 plants of marijuana on April 20, 2015.

“After assessing all the evidence, there is no evidence implicating the accused cultivating the said plants,” Magistrate Joseph Daurewa ruled.

“Consequently, there is insufficient evidence to prove this element beyond reasonable doubt.”
