A TOTAL of 1492 Vehicle Defect Orders were issued this year by the Land Transport Authority (LTA).
This is in comparison to the 2024 defect orders issued for the same period last year.
In a statement issued yesterday, the authority said statistics showed a decrease in the overall number of vehicles issued with defect orders.
The authority said the 26 per cent decrease showed that vehicle owners were ensuring that their vehicles were well maintained and, therefore, safe for driving or travelling in.
LTA board chairperson Vijay Maharaj said vehicle owners must always be aware of any defect to their vehicles.
He said being unaware was not an acceptable reason and that it would not benefit anyone.
“It is the vehicle owner/driver’s responsibility to carry out regular safety checks to ensure the vehicle is road worthy,” Mr Maharaj said.
He said the LTA would continue to monitor the vehicles on the roads to ensure all motor vehicles were defect free and did not jeopardise the safety of anyone.
