SUVA Grammar School’s under-15 rugby side produced a dominating performance to defeat Queen Victoria School 22-5 in a friendly match leading up to the Deans competition yesterday at Grammar’s school ground.

Both teams faced difficulty in delivering their best performance, but Suva Grammar team manager Debra Gucake admitted their handling of the ball could be improved on as the competition looms closer.

She also mentioned the quartet of the victorious junior boys 4x400m relay team and the junior boys long jump athlete who won gold at the Coca-Cola Games are part of the under-15 team.

Having joined training a day before the match, the trio will work on preparing themselves for the Deans competition, when the Southern Zone matches kick off in the second term of the school year.

“We won the under-15 Deans Trophy last year, and our main job this year is to retain the title” She added. The boys are said to be very committed to fight for their spot and make it to nationals.

Meanwhile on the opposing team, QVS head coach Misaele Gavidi acknowledged their boys played well according to game plan and are looking to improve on their set pieces for their next game.

Like their Grammar opponents, certain athletes who participated in the Coke Games recently were in their ranks too.

Gavidi remains composed and strategic as he decides that they will go back to the drawing room and make decisions for improvement in their next zone game.

Grammar will now face Cuvu College in Sigatoka tomorrow.
