THE Kaiviti Silktails squad members have been reminded to maintain a healthy diet as they continue with their individual training programs for the Ron Massey Cup.
Last Friday, the New South Wales Rugby League announced restarting its activities in July with the return day for training on July 1 and the competition recommencement on July 18.
The Silktails team made a bright start on debut in the RMC defeating Windsor Wolves 40-16 in March however the competition was suspended because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The international travel restrictions imposed amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and quarantine period required is likely to prevent the Silktails further participation in the RMC.
Silktails chairman and ambassador Petero Civoniceva said there were a lot of challenges being faced during this period.
“All we can do is to ask our players for it to be their responsibility in terms of keeping a track of their diet,” Civoniceva said.
“There are a lot of challenges and it is different from player to player with the circumstances they find themselves in.
“It is one of those things that we have to navigate through as a group and do our best. Our players know best that their health and wellbeing comes first. If they do the right thing and maintain their fitness, it will have a positive effect on the team.”
The Silktails centre of excellence in Lautoka is operating normally except for the gymnasium which is temporarily closed.
Fiji Bati head coach Brandon Costin held a coaching course at the facility last week. It attracted reps from Nadi and Lautoka.
