SOUTH Africa Women’s rugby captain Babalwa Latsha believes the South African men’s team should also get the opportunity to tour Fiji in the future.
Latsha, who led South Africa to a 29-22 victory over the Vodafone Fijiana XV at Churchill Park on Saturday, said Fiji’s style of rugby would provide an entertaining challenge for the Springboks.
Asked if she would send a message to the South African men about coming to Fiji, Latsha said: “Why not? Why not?”
“I think the Fijians play a very exciting game of rugby, very physical and expansive, and that’s entertaining.
“Sports is entertaining, so if the women can do it, so can the men.”
Latsha also believes the growing relationship between the Fiji Rugby Union and South African Rugby Union could open more opportunities for both nations.
“We’ve established a fantastic relationship with the Fijian Rugby Union, together with the South African Rugby Union, and we look forward to what’s to come of it,” she said.
“Maybe you’ll see us much more in your side of the world, maybe we’ll see much of you in our side of the world.
“But the important thing is to establish relationships as well, stronger together.”
Latsha said the future of women’s rugby was particularly bright if unions continued to work together and share a common vision.
“When we are all on the same page in terms of where we want to take the women’s game, I think the future looks exceptionally bright for women’s rugby across the oceans,” she said.
South Africa secured the inaugural Ubuntu-Bula Trophy after completing a 2-0 Test series victory over the Fijiana XV.
