Reverend Dr Jolami Lasawa has been elected President Elect of the Methodist Church in Fiji for 2027, following leadership elections at the Church’s Annual Conference today.
His election was one of the major outcomes of Day Three of the Methodist Church in Fiji Annual Conference 2026.
Rev Dr Lasawa will assume the presidency in 2027 and provide spiritual and pastoral leadership to one of Fiji’s largest Christian denominations as it continues its mission and ministry in Fiji and abroad.
The Conference also elected current Methodist Church President Reverend Dr Semisi Turagavou as General Secretary Elect for 2027.
Rev Dr Turagavou’s election will see him transition from the presidency to the senior administrative position next year.
Meanwhile, elections were also conducted for the position of Assistant General Secretary, currently held by Reverend Dr Anil Reuben.
The result is expected to be announced tomorrow.
Rev Dr Reuben’s current five-year term as Assistant General Secretary concludes in April 2027.
Apart from the leadership elections, Conference members continued deliberations on a range of issues affecting the Church and its institutions.
Matters relating to the Davuilevu Theological College, Deaconess Order and Women’s Fellowship were among those discussed.
Representatives of the institutions and departments were given opportunities to respond to questions and provide clarification on issues raised by Conference members.
The discussions form part of the Church’s efforts to strengthen theological education, ministry, fellowship and its wider institutional operations.
The Methodist Church in Fiji Annual Conference continues this week, with further deliberations and leadership announcements expected.
Attention will now turn to the remaining elections and discussions as the Church prepares for a significant leadership transition in 2027.
