The Lami Cavaliers overcame a spirited Suva Stallions team 35-30 in a closely contested match during round nine of the Suva Rugby Union Escott Shield competition at Bedesi Grounds in Suva yesterday.

Based in Lami, the club provides an opportunity for local youth to showcase their rugby talents and offers a pathway to higher rugby honours.

With players hailing from all 14 provinces across the country, it is their shared pride in Lami and passion for the game keeps the team united.

Flyhalf Jese Qauqau praised the team’s unity and composure on the field, which proved crucial in denying their opponent’s victory.

However, he acknowledged there are still areas for improvement.

“We are pleased with our victory today, but there is much we need to work on, particularly our lineouts and discipline,” he said.

In a fiercely contested match that could have gone either way, Qauqau credited the coach’s half-time advice for inspiring the team to secure the win against the home side.

“At half-time, the coach urged us to unite as a team on the field and to not let each other down in the second half,” he explained.

Last week, the Cavaliers also secured a hard-fought 7-5 win against neighbours Qauia, demonstrating resilience and character against strong opposition.

In other results, TISA Insurance Namuka I Lau defeated Covenant Red 55-23, while Qauia Green overcame DHL Raiwaqa 27-15.
