THE Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) has elected seasoned sporting administrator Anushil Kumar as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), with a focus on strengthening governance, improving athlete welfare and unlocking commercial opportunities.

Kumar said his appointment was a significant milestone in his career in sports administration and thanked the FASANOC president and executive board for their trust and confidence.

He also acknowledged the contributions of former chief executives saying he looked forward to building on the foundation they had established.

“My key focus will be on maintaining strong governance, unlocking untapped commercial opportunities, strengthening our team Fiji brand and building strong relationships with our national federations,” Kumar said.

Kumar highlighted athlete welfare would remain a priority, with a focus on ensuring Team Fiji athletes were better prepared and supported to compete at their highest level.

“My key focus will be on maintaining strong governance, strengthening Team Fiji’s brand and at the same time ensuring that the athlete welfare remains our priority.”

While winning more medals at international competitions remained an ambition, he said this would require clear pathways, partnerships and support systems to give athletes the best possible chance of success.

He said he would work with the board and stakeholders to build a strong and sustainable future for sport in Fiji.

Kumar also added that Fiji had enormous sporting potential, and the challenge was to turn it into meaningful opportunities and lasting benefits for athletes and future generations.

Acknowledging his position as a young leader, Kumar said leadership was not defined by age but by vision, commitment and the difference one could make.

“I may be the youngest CEO in Fiji, but leadership is never defined by age.”

“I’m here to listen, to lead and deliver results,” he said.
