Government is making every effort to ensure that produce grown in Fiji is organic in the truest sense, says Youth and Sports Minister Parveen Kumar.
He made the comment recently at the Youth Farm Initiative Grant handover at the Bukuya Village Community Hall, Ba.
Mr Kumar also said the State was engaging vigorously with youths because of their importance to the future of Fiji’s economy.
“There is more capital going into organic farming each year and we need to keep pace with this development so we can market truly Fijian grown products with nothing but natural inputs,” he said.
“We have always believed that to engage with youths will give us the firsthand experience about their hopes and dreams and that is why we have been reaching out to the thousands of unreached youths to have face to face meetings and to be in a better position to understand and make the right decisions for our young population.”
Mr Kumar said engaging with the youths was the only way to make a difference in Fiji.
“We can only offer you the best learning opportunities to make a difference by growing enough food to feed your families and your communities. “There are many challenges ahead for the sector, especially climate change.”
Mr Kumar handed over grants to four youth clubs at the event.
