THE Fiji women’s football side created history yesterday after qualifying for the final at the Pacific Games for the first time ever.

The side will now face Papua New Guinea on Friday at 4pm at the Lawson Tama grounds in Honiara.

Head coach Angeline Chua said she couldn’t be more prouder of the girls’ achievement.

“To be the first women’s team for Fiji to qualify for the finals is a huge achievement,” she said.

Fiji’s goals came from Ema Mereia, Cema Nasau and Vanisha Kumar.

While emotions are high in the team, Chua says her side will need to remain focused before they face PNG.

“PNG will be coming all out to defend their title, but we have nothing to lose.

“Our target coming tom the games was to win gold, and now we are just one step away from achieving this.”

She says her side will need to work on their weaknesses before taking on the defending champions.

“We need to be more clinical and vigilant on the ball.

“So now we will go back and look at how we can improve our game against PNG.

“We are expecting a tough battle, but the girls are ready to put their body on the line for Fiji.”
