SUVA Marathon Club (SMC) runner, Kris Prasad will aim to test his fitness and push himself to run faster for a longer distance at the Munro Leys Suva Challenge.

The Munro Leys Suva Challenge will be held this Saturday with the start and finish on Cakobau Road in front of the Albert Park grandstand.

The challenge will have the half marathon, team marathon, 10km and 5kmFun Run events as well as a kid’s run or walk around Albert Park.

Prasad hails from Wainibokasi in Rewa, and started running in 2014 as a form of exercise before joining SMC every Thursday evenings and enjoyed running with a group.

“The support and encouragement from the club helped me build up my pace and I went from running 5km to 10km and then completed my first half marathon (21km) last year at the Island Chill Suva Marathon,” he says.

Prasad shares he began to take care of his health seriously at the start of the year, which involved giving up drinking beer, refined and packed sugar and avoiding junk food.

“Together with strength training and twice weekly runs, my running pace has improved quite a bit in three months,” he says.

Prasad who works in the area of human rights, democracy and youth development, says the Munro Leys Suva Challenge will be his second attempt at a half marathon.

“I look forward to beating his personal record and completing the run in less than two hours. Fingers and toes crossed, and I hope to eventually run a full marathon in couple of years,” he adds.

The registrations for the Munro Leys Suva Challenge closed yesterday. Race numbers can be collected from the Fiji Museum between 4pm-6pm on Friday.
