Kadavu rugby will need a sharpshooter on kicking duties come the quarter-finals of the Royal Tea Ranadi competition this weekend.

Last weekend, Kadavu women scored six tries against Ba, but they were held to a 30-all draw as all their conversion attempts were missed.

Ba on the other hand, scored only three tries with all conversions and penalty kicks hitting the target thanks to the precise boots of Sereana Naweni who is the younger sister of Swire Shipping Fijian Drua fullback Ilaisa Droasese.

“At the moment, we do not have a specialised player at 10 that can kick our conversions and penalties,” Kadavu women’s coach Etuate Nauro said.

“We scored a lot of good tries, but our kickers could not convert even from close range. That’s a challenge that we will have to work around for the time being.”

Another area of concern seen during last Saturday’s clash was their loopholes in defence and discipline.

“We were exposed in areas of defence especially when Ba opened up play or when there is a broken field play so, we have to strengthen that before the quarter-finals.

“We received about two to three yellow cards and that weakness is on players themselves because they did what they were instructed not to do.”

Nauro said the plan this week was simple as they just needed to keep possession, apply pressure commit their tackles and minimise unnecessary penalties.

Kadavu meets Tavua in Saturday’s quarter-final match, 11 am at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
