IT was a tough battle between the Kadavu under-20 the Northern Bulls side from Naitasiri in round two of the Vodafone Vanua Cup competition at Bidesi Park in Suva yesterday.
Kadavu emerged victorious with a score of 21-18 in a thrilling match that had the crowd on the edge of their seats.
The game started off well for Kadavu as they took the lead in the first half with a score of 18-13.
The second half was a test of both teams’ defenses, with the score tied at 18-18 in the final minutes.
A crucial penalty kick in favor of Kadavu secured their win, sending the crowd into a frenzy of cheers and celebration.
Team manager Epi Seru Daveta expressed his pride in the team’s performance, commending their hard work during training throughout the week.
He credited their dedication and sacrifice for the victory, acknowledging the tough challenge posed by the Northern Bulls team.
“I’m really proud of the boy’s performance today (yesterday), they have been working hard throughout the week during training, and all the sacrifice has shown in the field today (yesterday),” said Daveta.
Despite the close margin of victory, Daveta highlighted the need for improvement in ball handling and defense.
He emphasised the importance of not becoming complacent after this win and maintaining focus for the upcoming matches.
Looking ahead to their next game against Nasinu in round three, Daveta stressed the team’s need to stay focused on their preparations and come back even stronger.
