A victim of bullying, Josefa Raiwalui overcame his personal challenges to become head boy of Ratu Kadavulevu School.

The 18-year-old from Nasauvuki, Moturiki, was among the 80 prefects inducted at the RKS Chapel yesterday.

“I’m one of the smallest Year 13 student and I have overcome a lot of challenges,” Josefa said.

“I was bullied once. I had made numerous phone calls home saying that I wanted to change schools.

“With my parents’ words of encouragement, I was able to overcome the challenges.

“To be entrusted with over 800 students is a big responsibility as it carries a lot of weight.”

The Nasauvuki lad said he believed everything happened for a reason and it was all in God’s timing.

Not only is Josefa an exceptional student academically, he also represents the school in basketball and swimming.

Joined by his parents, Eliki and Vani Raiwalu, the 18-year-old said he was honoured and privileged to be selected for the role.

Mr Raiwalui said he was proud of his son’s achievements and that they would continue to support him.

As an old boy, he said the task was not for the weak and hoped his son would lead by example.
