DELEGATES from the agriculture sector in Thailand and Fiji gathered to have a discussion to review the progress on various projects since the first joint meeting in 2016.

The delegates met during the opening for the Fiji-Thailand second session of joint agriculture working group meeting at the Holiday Inn Suva on Saturday.

Permanent secretary for the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives in Thailand, Lertviroj Kowattana said one of the objectives of the meeting was to analyse a few projects from the first joint meeting that was conducted in 2016.

“The key objectives of this meeting is to review the progress of projects from the first meeting of the joint agricultural working group and to exchange views on new projects,” he said.

“Furthermore, if I may have to raise some concerning issues it only has to strengthen and expand our co-operation in agriculture.

“I wish the meeting today will achieve our goal and enhance further co-operation between Thailand and Fiji.”

Permanent secretary for the Ministry of Agriculture in Fiji, David Kolitagane said during the first joint meeting in 2016, there were six proposals that both Fiji and Thailand agreed to undertake.

“After the first joint meeting in 2016 there were six proposals that we have both agreed to undertake by both countries,” he said.

“The six proposals as of today, I felt that it may be in progress but in some areas we will try to work closely with you to try and fast track and to implement it early and on time.”

He acknowledged the Thailand government for taking up the initiative to set up the meeting.
