Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) has complained to The Fiji Times about an article last month reporting that the FNPF retirement withdrawal age had increased from the age of 54 to 59.

In a letter to The Fiji Times on Thursday, FNPF chief executive officer Viliame Vodonaivalu said the article was “factually incorrect, misleading and caused widespread confusion and distress for many of our members”.

“To clarify: the FNPF retirement entitlement age remains at 55 years. It was never changed,” Mr Vodonaivalu said.

The Fiji Times editor Fred Wesley acknowledged the error, saying that certain required checks on the incorrect article had not taken place.

“No one likes to make mistakes and at The Fiji Times we are no different. We also recognise that as a leading national media organisation we have a special responsibility to the public.

“FNPF did not believe that our earlier correction had enough prominence and requested that we clarify the matter prominently again. We think it is only fair that we do so. “We regret the error and any inconvenience and concern it has caused to FNPF and its members.”
