With less than seven days left to December 1, Minister for Tourism and Commerce Faiyaz Koya says Fiji’s Tourism industry was more than ready to welcome back international visitors after an almost two year wait.

He said tourist stakeholders were prepared for the long awaited border reopening and have met all of the necessary COVID19 protocols needed to ensure the safety of staff and guests.

“There’s a lot of positive vibes around December 1 and it should be really good in terms of the industry stakeholders,” he said.

“There have been very positive responses from them.

“They’ve all got their properties ready.

“Quite a few properties got their CFC (Care Fiji Commitment) approvals.

“Tourism Fiji has been working really hard on that and the Ministry has too and also the stakeholders to get ready for the influx of tourists coming into Fiji which is absolutely a welcome sight for all of us.”

He said resort workers were also looking forward to the reopening of their workplaces.

“There were some people who went back to their villages and who didn’t want to come back but there’s new people and younger people that have been hired but I haven’t had any complaints from any resort owners saying that they are having difficulty in hiring people so people want to go back to work.

“It’s been more than 12 months and it’s been a struggle for everybody so it’s not really a problem.”
