THE Indian High Commission in Fiji yesterday handed over sets of cricket kits to two prominent local teams yesterday. Members of the Lakeba and Moce cricket teams were all smiles when they received top quality cricket gear from the commission in Suva.

High Commissioner P.S Karthigeyan, while handing over the equipment, said Fiji had the potential to do much better on the international scene.

“I can see the real interest, energy and enthusiasm among players in Fiji and I have been left wondering why Fiji cannot do any better,” the high commissioner said.

“It will mark the beginning of a long relation between Cricket Fiji and the playing community here in Fiji.” Cricket Fiji chairperson Ratu Meli Saubulinayau acknowledged the support from the Indian High Commission.

The two teams received SS equipment, which is regarded as one of the top cricket brands in India.

The handover was to mark the Friendship Festival, marking 73 years of India’s diplomatic presence in Fiji.
