Goundar Shipping commissions new inter-island vessel

GOUNDAR Shipping commissioned its latest addition to its fleet – the Lomaiviti VIII in Suva today.

The new vessel, acquired from Japan at about $2.2million, will service the Natovi-Nabouwalu route.

“We’re hoping to get the ship operational by the end of this month,” managing director George Goundar said.

“We’re just going to do a bit of modification for the comfort of the passengers,” he added.

He said the vessel could cater for 500 passengers.

According to Mr Goundar, the vessel is universal and is about 60m in length and can travel up to a speed of 15 knots.
