Former Lautoka golfer Mahen Gopal wants to continue what he started in 2006, that is to continue to assist our local golfers. Gopal, who now lives in Canada, says he is proud to partner with his wife to support the game at the Nadi Airport Golf Club.

“We had our first golf tournament at the Nadi Airport Golf Club course in 2006 but this time it will be a tournament in memory of my mum and players will battle for the Subbamma Memorial Cup,” said.

“The tournament will be sponsored by me and my wife Anita and will be held on May 15.” Gopal, who is the younger brother of former national golf champion Daven Gopa, has also sponsored golf tournaments in Lautoka and Ba in the past.

“The tournament on the May 15 will be played on one of the best courses in Fiji and this is also where former world No.1 Vijay Singh used to play the game,” Gopal said.

“We would like to thank Mark Hinton for giving us the opportunity to organise this prestigious tournament.

“We also would like to say that we will be getting more gold tournaments to Nadi this year and will also include a ladies tournament.”

Gopal said they had organised some very good prizes for the tournament.
