The president of Federated States of Micronesia has laid out how citizens stranded abroad might be able to return.
Hundreds of Micronesians were stranded mostly in Guam and Hawaii while they tried their way back to the country.
But they were caught out when the country sealed itself off to prevent the arrival of Covid-19.
David Panuelo said no date has yet been set for when they can return, but he and the four state governors have agreed a process.
“We have broad agreement that citizens may, per WHO and CDC guidelines, be required to be tested for Covid-19 two days prior to entry into the FSM, to be followed by state-mandated quarantine and isolation procedures.”
David Panuelo also announced a US$300,000 financial assistance package for stranded citizens.
