Here are some reports that made headlines in The Fiji Times’ edition for Thursday, September 23.

PAGE 1

FIJIANS will now be required to use the name on their birth certificate to be registered as a voter. Parliament has passed the Electoral Registration of Voters Amendment Bill which now requires Fijians to use the name as stated in their birth certificate and no other aliases.

  • NO one can bring my sister back, the only thing we want is justice. This was the plea of Lautoka resident Navin Kumar whose younger sister was found abandoned near her vehicle in Teidamu, Lautoka a week ago.
  • A Lautoka-based police officer has been charged for raping a fellow female officer over the weekend. The alleged incident happened at the single man’s barracks in Lautoka where the constable used force to enter the room of the victim.
  • A family was produced at the Nadi Magistrates Court to answer charges relating to the death of a 29-year-old man in Navakai, Nadi on Sunday night.
  • AFTER completing its review of the adult target population for vaccination, the Ministry of Health and Medical Services has now updated the target population coverage accordingly.
  • FIJI recorded 118 new cases of COVID-19 for the 24-hour period that ended on Tuesday morning with one new COVID-19 death from the Western Division.
