Bula

Wasn’t that a beauty? That come-from-behind win over Ireland at the Toulouse leg of the World Rugby 7s Series tournament was special.

In fact it was a chock a block weekend of sporting events.

There was the 7s, the Farebrother Sullivan Trophy challenge and soccer fans enjoyed the annual Fiji Football Association Cup Tournament (Fiji FACT).

Also on the homefront, political parties were slowly getting straight into campaign mode. You could sense it in the air. In fact it’s going to be the norm moving forward as we gear up for the General Election.

The big one on the front page of The Fiji Times’ edition for Tuesday, May 24, is about a report on poverty.

More than two thirds of Fiji’s poorest people are to be found in rural areas, according to a technical note jointly released by the Fiji Bureau of Statistics and the World Bank.

REFLECTIONS

I also remember this day back in 2018… when we came off our court case. I remember walking back to the office from the High court… and it took more than half an hour… a walk that we had made in about 10 minutes earlier in the day. I remember the many handshakes along the way, the well wishes, and the calls that came through to the office. I remember the afternoon and later the evening quite clearly as if it was just yesterday. I am motivated by the support every day, and inspired by the people who go out of their way to show their support. That was truly humbling and left an indelible impression on the mind.
