“BEING in the Fiji Police Force, you were supposed to maintain a good character.”

This was the comment of Nausori Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne when sentencing a former police officer to four months imprisonment for one count of theft.

After a trial, Luse Bulivou, 44, was found guilty for stealing a chain from Radhe Krishna Jewelry Shop on September 12, 2015, in Nausori.

The court heard that the incident was recorded in the CCTV footage of the shop and when Bulivou was confronted, she returned the chain.

Magistrate Somaratne said the vast majority of officers in the Fiji Police Force served the public with honour and distinction but there were very few like Bulivou who unfortunately tarnished the badge of committed men and women of law enforcement.
