Fiji Football Association has taken it’s first step to take football to the maritime islands, after FIFA Football for School’s Curriculum was launched at the Namara Village School in Yasawa earlier this week.

In a statement, Fiji FA Technical Director Timo Jankowski said bringing football to the Yasawa Islands through the FIFA Football for Schools Curriculum was a great initiative by the Fiji Football Association and FIFA.

“It’s essential to provide opportunities for sports and recreation in all communities, and football is such a globally loved sport that can bring people together and promote physical activity and teamwork,” he said.

Jankowski added that the enthusiasm and determination shown by the kids in Namara Village School were truly inspiring.

“The kids were super excited as some of them had the opportunity to kick the ball for the first time and play football.

“We could see some great talents with lots of passion in the school.”

He said this was just the beginning of a thriving football culture in the Yasawa Islands and other maritime Islands in Fiji.”
