The Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) has revealed its intention to diversify investments into the Northern Division through a multi-million-dollar shopping complex in Labasa.

This project marks a significant move towards boosting economic growth and providing job opportunities for local communities.

For several years, the Fund’s chief executive officer Viliame Vodonaivalu said they had been exploring opportunities to invest in the North for number of years.

“Our investment goes hand in hand with the national development plan,” he said.

However, Mr Vodonaivalu said the proposed investment in Labasa was expected to materialise within the next two years.

“We will make an investment here, that is my assurance to you,” he said.

Currently, the project is still in the preliminary phase, with the fund evaluating two potential sites in Labasa for the shopping complex.

He did not name the sites. However, when asked whether they had bought a piece of land from Fiji Sugar Corporation, he said they haven’t yet.

“It’s still under process though,” he said.

“However, we do have an interest in two sites.”

FNPF’s investment in Labasa is a testament to the fund’s role not just in securing the financial futures of its members, but also in contributing to the socio-economic development of Fiji, particularly in regions that are ripe for growth and development, Mr Vodonaivalu said.
