THE Fiji Teachers Union says unpaid FNPF contributions must be reconciled and paid to teachers, warning administrative failures must not jeopardise their retirement savings.

FTU general secretary Muniappa Goundar said yesterday the payroll verification exercise highlighted the importance of accurate employment and payroll records.

“The two issues are separate, but they both point to the importance of accurate payroll and employment records,” he said.

Mr Goundar said the FTU would continue pressing for outstanding FNPF contributions belonging to teachers to be properly reconciled and remitted.

“These are workers’ retirement savings and must be protected.”

He said the Fiji National Provident Fund had highlighted the impact unpaid contributions could have on members’ retirement outcomes and had introduced an amnesty for historical arrears up to November 2024.

“Our position is clear: teachers should not lose their retirement benefits because of administrative failures,” Mr Goundar said.
