24-year-old Neel Akashni believes first-aid training should be compulsory for people of all ages.

The Makoi resident was part of a three-day exercise on Mobile Skills Training on First Aid Training this week at the Nausori Community Village Hall in Nausori and said such events would assist people in any situation.

“I have learnt how to save a life and how to apply Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and its important that people learn about this because we don’t know what happens in any situation and we must always be prepared,” she said.

Among the 40 youths from Nausori who attended the training was 32-year-old Rupeni Batimoi of Daku Village in Tailevu, who said he was eager to share the knowledge and skills he had acquired from the course to his community.

“I am so grateful for this opportunity to apply first-aid and assistance to people in any emergency situation,” he said.

Youth Minister Parveen Kumar, who officiated in the closing ceremony, said the training was a critical tool to empowering youths around the country with valuable skills and knowledge.

“We have mobile skills training program and one of it is first-aid skills and we are reaching out to the unreached youths so we take this trainings to their doorstep so I’m very pleased with the outcome as it will surely assist them, their families and their communities,” he said.
