THE Fijiana 7s side continued with its dominance at the Pacific Games winning its fourth straight gold medal in Honiara, Solomon Islands on Saturday.

The Jim Volavola coached side shrugged off a gallant effort from Papua New Guinea coming out with a 17-7 victory in the end.

Fiji’s Elenoa Naimata scored two tries in the final while Verenaisi Bari added a third in the last play of the match.

Volavola said he was proud of the effort from his team.

“That last two minutes was something. They (PNG) came out strong in the end but am just proud of how our women held on for the win,” Volavola said.

Women’s Rugby 7s started at the Pacific Games in 2011 and Fiji has won all four gold medals since.

PNG, which had won bronze medals in the last three games, moved up a step to win silver this time around.

The next Pacific Games will be held in Pirae, Tahiti.
