Fijian Police officer secures scholarship to study in China

INSPECTOR Mavis Fatiaki is the second member of the Fiji Police Force to have secured a three year scholarship to study at the People’s Public Security University of China.

Fiji Police’s director international relations Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ulaiasi Ravula in a statement said they were grateful to have been given another opportunity for Fijian officers to study abroad.

SSP Ravula said the force had forged a close working relationship with the Chinese Ministry of Public Security and any opportunity given to up-skill and expand the knowledge of our officers would always be appreciated.

“IP Fatiaki had successfully completed our three year cadetship and held the post of Station Officer Vunidawa for the last two years and as an up and coming officer she will be given this opportunity to broaden her knowledge of policing with one of the world’s leading learning institutions,” he said.

Inspector Fatiaki having only served for five years thanked the Commissioner of Police Sitiveni Qiliho for selecting her to represent the institution.

“I will not only be representing the Fiji Police Force but Fiji and I will give my best to learn as much as possible to further my policing career so that I can better serve the people of Fiji,” she said.

The People’s Public Security University of China university offers studies in law, foreign languages, literature, criminal investigation, criminology, management, information security, traffic control, forensic science.

Meanwhile, in 2011 the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Government of Fiji signed a Police Cooperation Agreement which has to date seen the two Police organisations exchange assistance in many forms.

Inspector Fatiaki left Fiji last Friday.
