THE results of the ongoing consultations between the two countries is progressing well and will be realized soon as most of what was discussed is already a work in progress and is being actioned right now by the two parties.
Minister for Agriculture, Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Management and Meteorological Services, Inia Seruiratu said this at the second session of Joint Agriculture Working Group meeting which was recently hosted by Fiji at the Holiday Inn in Suva referring to the Governments of Fiji and Thailand have progressed areas of mutual interest and cooperation in the agriculture sector.
The meeting was held to review the progress of projects from the first joint meeting held in Thailand in 2016 and to exchange views on other new projects.
The JAWG is responsible for assessing the outcomes of the implementing programmes of the MoU signed between Fiji and Thailand in December 2015, submitting proposals for their further development and improvement, and recommending possible ways and means of overcoming their problems or difficulties.
Mr Seruiratu acknowledged the assistance provided by the Government of Thailand and the information exchanged during the meeting.
“We look forward to working closely with the Government of Thailand to strengthen the Government cooperation between our two countries. We intend to learn more from a developed country like Thailand and how the country has progressed through the years.”
The Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives in Thailand, Lertviroj Kowattana suggested delegations of both countries to be wise on their proposals to the relevant agencies for their consideration.
“I hope what we have discussed will be rapidly followed and brought into concrete action at a timely manner which would benefit both countries. We should guarantee that our bilateral relationship will reach a high level of achievements,” Mr Kowattana said.
The third Fiji-Thailand Joint Agriculture Working Group meeting will be held in Thailand in 2020.
