Fiji has recorded 146 new cases of COVID-19 since the last update on October 15.

Ministry of Health permanent secretary Dr James Fong said 85 new cases were recorded on October 16, 39 new cases on October 17, and 22 new cases in the last 24 hours ending at 8am today.

There are no COVID-19 deaths reported tonight.

“The differences between the Central and Western are similar to the incidence of the daily cases and are likely a reflection of vaccination levels, COVID mitigation measures, and differences in population density,” Dr Fong said.

He said the epidemic curve, on the other hand, depicted the daily positive cases since the second wave of this outbreak that began in April this year.

Overall, there have been 51,777 cases recorded; 71 per cent from the Central Division, 27 per cent from the Western Division, and 2 per cent of the cases from the Eastern and Northern divisions.
