Fiji region records 5.7 mag earthquake

A MODERATE 5.7 magnitude earthquake with deep depth source location was recorded in the Fiji region this afternoon (August 8).

The Seismology Unit of the Mineral Resources department in Suva reported that the earthquake occurred at 1:42pm at a depth of 384km and was located 453km East from Labasa.

The seismic activity was registered at 483km Southwest from Upolu, Samoa; 229km South-Southeast from Mata’utu, Wallis and Futuna and 672km Northeast from Suva.

The department said the earthquake did not pose any immediate threat to the region.
