Fiji Police not investigating alleged assault of Taiwan official further; matter handled at diplomatic level

The Fiji Police Force will not be conducting further investigations in the case of on an alleged assault on a Taiwanese official based here in Fiji by two diplomats from the Chinese Embassy.

Acting Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu confirmed this in a statement saying the investigation file regarding the alleged assault case lodged by a Chinese Embassy official had been filed.

He said the matter was now being handled at the diplomatic level as agreed to by all parties involved.

“The Fiji Police Force, therefore, will not be conducting further investigations and we will not be making any further comments on the issue,” A/CP Tudravu said.

Meanwhile, acting Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Yogesh Karan said they had not received any diplomatic note from either the Taiwan Trade Office or the Embassy of China.

Taiwan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Harry Ho-jen Tseng told his Parliament yesterday the alleged assault took place at a reception to celebrate Taiwan’s national day.
